Colossians 3: 12- 17
As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
I'm a bit of a fashionista. I love to sparkle and bling with lots of purple and royal blue. I dress to the way I feel - maybe it's rock-n-roll or a little country or some vintage piece. I costume my exterior to express myself or make a statement. But this text is about what am I going to wear on the inside. Could you imagine a world where we all wore an interior uniform of kindness, compassion, humility, love, patience, meekness and gratitude?
At Christmas I reflect on how the Christ is being born in me. How have I lived out a life clothed in Christ? This year was one of daily transformations and little miracles, of expanding my heart in the context of scarcity and fear. I guess you could say, with a little style advice from Colossians I skirted around what not to wear.
So this Christmas as you open presents of new clothes or don an ugly Christmas sweater, consider what you will wear on the inside? Such simple choices could change the world.
